Juliette de Massy, soprano
Originally from Lozère, Juliette began her training with Maurice Bourbon and then at the CNR (Regional Conservatory) of Lille. She then graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with a degree in classical singing (as a recipient of a Young Talent scholarship from the AnBer Foundation), where she had the opportunity to work with artists who deeply influenced her, such as Susan McCulloch, Udo Reinemann, Tom Krause, and Guy Fletcher. She performs as a soloist in several ensembles and has been invited to sing at the Jeunes Talents festival in Paris, La Folle Journée de Nantes, the Présences festival of Radio France, and at the Opera houses of Tours, Bordeaux, Marseille, and Lille...
Passionate about literature and more intimate repertoires, Juliette is a highly sought-after partner in chamber music and develops strong artistic connections with musicians such as accordionist Bogdan Nesterenko (with whom she recorded a Bach album released in 2014), cellists Rohan de Saram and Laure Balteaux, and pianists Emmanuel Olivier, Nejc Lavrencic, Alain Villard, and Marino Formenti.
Juliette is also deeply involved in championing contemporary repertoires. Within this field, she explores movement, dance, improvisation, sound, and voice. She works with several ensembles specialized in contemporary music, including Offrandes, Links, and Alternance, as well as with composers who write pieces specifically for her.
It is this desire to "explore" and build bridges that leads Juliette to collaborate with artists from diverse backgrounds, exploring the voice on theater stages, notably with the theater research workshop 1+1=3 (Martine Venturelli), Le Singe (Sylvain Creuzevault), and Hors champ (Pascale Nandillon and Frédéric Tétart).
It is also this passion for the voice, musical construction, and the subtle interpretation of scores and texts that eventually led Juliette to conducting. In 2016, she took over the leadership of Métamorphoses for the final four albums of the complete works of Josquin des Prez. Building on this experience, she founded LA GRANDE GARABAGNE in 2021 within the Atelier Vocal en Cévennes.
In 2016, driven by a desire for independence, she created Les ateliers Misuk, which she co-directs with Nina Lainville. This collective of musicians, actors, dancers, and visual artists explores questions of transversality and interdisciplinarity through short-form works, with the goal of diversifying artistic practices and fostering a new dynamic in artistic creation.
